"The Windy City" vs. "The Big Apple"

When one thinks of America, the Statue of Liberty is the first thing to pop into our mind. With its many chic museums, lush green parks, fantastic street food, and world-famous landmarks, New York should be top of the list on one's travel bucket list. While it is well worth the hype, Chicago gives New York a run for its money when one thinks about the weather, fine dining, award-winning theatre, and stunning waterfront views. 


In the words of Sinatra,
Chicago is my kind of town. But why is that? This article will be detailing everything there is to see in these two great cities. Who knows, maybe we'll decide a favorite? Keep reading to find out what to see, where to eat, and how to explore both Chicago and New York when in the USA!

Exploring Chicago

Being a primary metropolis, Chicago has always been a hub of activity. The streets are always full of people, some rushing to work or cheering on the Cubs or White Sox, while others buy mouthwatering hot dogs, Chicago style. Boasting the second-largest public transport system in the country. Chicago is known for its unique blend of modern and classic architecture, such as the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) and the Chicago Water Tower, a survivor of the Great Chicago Fire. The city is also home to world-renowned museums, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Science and Industry. For those looking for some fun in the sun, Chicago's Lake Michigan beaches are a popular destination during the summer months. As for food, Chicago is famous for its deep-dish pizza, Italian beef sandwiches, and hot dogs. Visitors can also take a stroll through the Navy Pier and enjoy the amusement park rides, restaurants, and entertainment. Architecture

Chicago is the birthplace of skyscrapers. While a fire destroyed the first one, the city built another within a few months, boasting the first fireproof building in the world. Today, Chicago can be seen reaching for the sky in massive steel and glass structures. Chicago’s Willis Tower, formerly known  as the Sears Tower, held the title for the tallest building in the world for 25 years. Standing at 108 stories and 1,450 feet, visitors can see a wonderful view of the city from the Skydeck Glass Ledge.  If exploring the architectural wonders is the goal, travelers can also take the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise. This 90-minute journey is the best way to check out all the city has to offer; for a smaller fee, get on a water taxi and explore the Chicago skyline. 


Food

Chicago's food scene is not only diverse, but it's also steeped in history and tradition. One of the city's most famous culinary inventions is the deep-dish pizza, which can be found at iconic spots like Lou Malnati's, Gino's East, and Pizzeria Uno. But Chicago is also known for its classic street foods, including the Chicago-style hot dog, which can be enjoyed at Portillo's or Gene & Jude's. Another popular dish is the Italian beef sandwich, which is a must-try at iconic spots like Al's Beef or Mr. Beef. In addition to these classic dishes, Chicago's food scene is constantly evolving, with new and innovative restaurants popping up all the time. Visitors can explore trendy neighborhoods like West Loop, which is home to popular spots like Girl & the Goat and Au Cheval, or head to Logan Square for a taste of the city's up-and-coming food scene at places like Lula Cafe and Giant. Chicago is a dream destination for the beach bum traveler. With over 26 miles of shoreline, this city offers some of the most stunning beaches that beg one to make a splash in. Visiting Chicago in the summers is ideal for sunbathing on the rich, golden brown sands with the sound of crashing waves in the background. Work on that tan, grab a bite to eat and play around in the cool blue-green waters to experience the best this this city has to offer.


Exploring New York

New York is a city that needs no introduction. Famously known as the Big Apple, New York has more to offer than any other city in the world. From the Statue of Liberty, glamorous Madison Avenue, and Times Square to the chic Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park, New York is money well-spent when it comes to traveling. So what's so great about the City that Never Sleeps? Visitors can take a stroll through Central explore the city's diverse neighborhoods such as Chinatown or Little Italy. The city is also known for its iconic landmarks like the Empire State Building. Foodies will love the city's famous pizza, bagels, and cheesecake. The city is also famous for its street food such as hot dogs and pretzels. New York City is a must-see destination for anyone interested in history, architecture, or urban culture. there is no shortage of things to see and do in this vibrant metropolis.

New York houses several of the country's most historical landmarks. From the Empire State Building, Statue of Lady Liberty, to St. Patrick's Cathedral and the Flatiron building, the Big Apple is a dream for every history buff out there. Travelers from around the world visit to pay their respects at the 9/11 memorial. Not only that, the Metropolitan Museum of Art boasts one of the world's most extensive collections of classic and modern art.
